Page 2-24 V10/V7.5/V5/V3.5 Installation and Operation ManualIssue 3.5 Section 2 Preparation for Use and Installation2.4 COMMISSIONINGPROCEDURESThe following procedures are in a step-by-step format. They permit a person who isnot familiar with the transmitter to performrequired checks. Complete theprocedures in sequence. The transmitter is precisely calibrated andsubjected to a burn-in during manufacture. It should not be necessary to change anyadjustment, other than those specified.NOTE (for IBOC users)If the transmitter is part of an IBOCsystem, it should be commissioned inconjunction with the IBOC systemcomponents. Refer to the turn-on orcommissioning procedures of these itemsfor more information.NOTEDepending on customer requests, theexciter, IPA, IPA power supply and/or fanpower supply may be duplicated andconnected to form main and standbymodules. The LVPS module may also beduplicated, but is not main/standbyconfigurable. The control/display panel’sdiagnostic display indicates which module(A or B) is selected as the main source.Duplicated modules are as follows:A SideA – Exciter......................................................A14A – IPA Module (V10/V7.5)............................A19A – IPA PA (V5/V3.5)................................ A19A4A – IPA Switching Power Supply Module........U1A – LVPS Module...........................................U11A – Fan Supply Module .................................U13B SideB – Exciter......................................................A15B – IPA Module (V10/V7.5 only)....................A20B – IPA PA (V5/V3.5, dual PA only) ......... A19A3B – IPA Switching Power Supply Module........U2B – LVPS Module...........................................U12B – Fan Supply Module .................................U142.4.1 PrecautionsThe transmitter contains many solid statedevices that can be damaged if subjectedto excessive heat or high voltagetransients. Ensure circuits are notoverdriven or disconnected from theirloads while turned on. Read and observethe precautionary information in Section3 - Operating Instructions prior to applyingpower and during operation.2.4.2 Turn-On PrerequisitesTo verify the transmitter is ready to turnon, complete the following steps:(a) Verify all interconnect wiring isinstalled and installation requirementsof paragraph 2.3 have beencompleted.(b) Ensure ac power is switched off.(c) Set the ON/STANDBY switch of eachswitching power supply module (A-Hfor V10, A-C and E-G for V7.5, A-D forV5, A-C for V3.5, IPA A and IPA B, ifapplicable) to STANDBY (toggledown). Use the transmitter’ssilkscreened panel as location aids.WARNINGFor certain customers an “InterlockShorted” jumper is factory installedbetween the interlock inputs (TB1-1/TB1-2) on the remote interface PWB(A44). While this jumper is in place, safety features controlled by theexternal interlocks are disabled.Implement a fail-safe method ofalerting personnel to this fact. Voltagesthat are dangerous to life are presenton RF output stages and the antennasystem if transmitter is turned on.(d) If a jumper has not been factoryinstalled, close all external interlocksor connect a temporary jumper wirebetween TB1-1 and TB1-2 of theremote interface PWB (A44).
