23Playing discs (continued)Changing audio[RAM] [DVD-A] [DVD-V] [VCD]Remote control onlyYou can change the audio being received or played with thefollowing procedure.PreparationSwitch [DVD, TV] (19) to “DVD”.During reception or playPress [AUDIO] (36) to select the audio type.How the type changes depends on when you press the button.ªWhile receiving a TV programme with StereoWhen receiving a TV programme with the Stereo, Bilingual orNICAM sound system, the type of sound system in which it isbroadcast is automatically indicated.(1) e.g.: “NICAM” is selected≥If “NICAM OFF” is selected during manual tuning (page 67),“MONO” is always displayed.ªWhile playing a television programme recorded onDVD-RAMIf it is a recording of a stereo broadcastLR>L>R^-------------}(2) e.g.: “LR” is selectedªWhile playing a DVD Audio or a DVD VideoYou can change the audio channel number each time you pressthe button. This allows you to change things like the soundtrack.(3) e.g.: [DVD-V] English is the selected language(4) e.g.: [DVD-V] The language is switched to FrenchªWhile playing a Video CDLR>L>R^-------------}(5) e.g.: “LR” is selectedFor your reference≥You can also use the DISPLAY menu to change the audio type.≥You can change the audio for the images being played withsimultaneous recording and play and Time Slip.ªWhen you have connected the unit to otherequipment with an optical digital cableYou cannot change the audio type when you have used only anoptical digital cable for connection in the following cases:≥While playing stereo or bilingual broadcasts recorded on DVD-RAM.≥While playing something recorded from other equipment.When using DVD-R or discs with LPCM recordingYou cannot use [AUDIO] (36) or the DISPLAY menu to changeaudio type when a DVD-R is in the disc tray or recording is set toLPCM.≥While receiving a bilingual TV broadcastYou can use the SETUP menus to select which audio type isrecorded, either “M1” or “M2”. “M1” is the default setting. (page 62,“Sound”— “Bilingual Audio Selection”)≥During playThe audio type selected for recording is played. This is displayedas “LR”.ªRecording sound using LPCMTo obtain higher quality recordings using LPCM, prepare asfollows:1) Select “LPCM” in the SETUP menu, “Sound”— “Audio Modefor XP Recording” (page 62).2) Set recording mode to “XP”.Note≥Sound recordings made using LPCM require more informationthan usual.
