The front panel of the selected 316x DSU/CSUappears on the PC.Using the Async TerminalFeatureYou can use an async terminal to manage the3160/3164 DSU/CSU devices from either the COM portor MODEM port. You can perform device managementand configuration operations as if using the device’s frontpanel without the limitation of the 2-line, 16-characterLCD. An entire menu, submenu, test result, or allconfiguration selections for a configuration option appearon a single screen display.This section is provided as a supplement to all theprocedures described throughout this manual for using thefront panel. Therefore, all the procedures, tables anddescriptions of fields and input values provided in allchapters and appendices apply to the informationdisplayed on the async terminal screens. There aredifferences in menu selections made from the frontpanel/PC interface and the async terminal interface whenperforming a task. Refer to the Differences Using theAsync Terminal Interface heading within each proceduredescription to note the differences between interfaces.This section is limited to describing how the asyncterminal feature is configured, how it is accessed and howto navigate among the menus and screens.Setting Interface OptionsCertain user interface options must be set to enableasync terminal operation. Using the front panel, use theConfiguration (Cnfig) branch of the front panel menuhierarchy to edit the User Interface (User) options forasync terminal operation. Table 3-13 shows theconfiguration options and appropriate settings for theAsync Terminal feature. Basically, the change depends onthe port supplying the connection.
