Connecting to the Network6H128-08 and 6H129-08 User’s Guide3-53.4 CONNECTING TO THE NETWORKThis section provides the procedures for connecting fiber optic andtwisted pair segments from the network or other devices to the 6H12X-08.Ports 1 through 6 have SC connectors for fiber. The 6H128-08 supportsmultimode fiber, and the 6H129-08 supports single mode fiber. Ports 7and 8 support FE-100TX, FE-100FX, or FE-100F3 Fast EthernetInterface Modules. The FE-100TX has an RJ45 connector for a TwistedPair cable connection. The FE-100FX and FE-100F3 have SC connectorsfor fiber optic cable connections.Refer to Section 3.4.1 to make fiber connections to ports 1 through 6.Refer to Section 3.4.2 to make a twisted pair connection to an FE-100TXin port slot 7 or 8.Refer to Section 3.4.3 to make a fiber optic cable connection to anFE-100FX or FE-100F3 in port slot 7 or 8.3.4.1 Connecting Fiber Optic Cables to Ports 1Through 6Ports 1 through 6 of the 6H12X-08 have SC style network ports (seeFigure 3-2). Cabletron Systems supplies fiber optic cable that uses SCstyle connectors that are keyed to ensure proper crossing over of thetransmit and receive fibers. The 6H128-08 is designed for use withmultimode fiber, and the 6H129-08 is designed for use with single modefiber. Use of the incorrect fiber type may cause network problems. Pleaserefer to the Cabletron Systems Cabling Guide for further information.NOTEIf the 6H12X-08 is being installed in a network usingSmartTrunking, there are rules concerning the network cableand port configurations that must be followed forSmartTrunking to operate properly. Before connecting thecables, refer to theSmartTrunk User’s Guide for theconfiguration information.
