12-2 Maintenance Chapter 12Periodic CleaningYour copier/fax requires little periodic maintenance. This section describes thenecessary cleaning procedures for your copier/fax. Please note the following beforecleaning your unit:• Be sure to disconnect the power cord before cleaning the copier/fax. Sincedocuments in memory are erased when the power is disconnected, print anydocuments stored in memory before disconnecting the power cord. (1 p. 7-15)• Do not use tissue paper, paper towels, or similar materials for cleaning; they can stickto the components or generate static charges.c Never use volatile liquids such as thinners, benzene, acetone, or any other chemicalcleaner to clean the interior of the copier/fax; these can damage the copier/faxcomponents.Cleaning the Copier/Fax’s ExteriorFollow this procedure to clean the unit’s outer casing:1 Disconnect the power cord from thecopier/fax.2 Wipe the unit’s exterior with a clean, soft,lint-free cloth moistened with water ordiluted dishwashing detergent solution.3 When you are finished, reconnect the powercord.Cleaning the Copier/Fax’s InteriorCleaning Inside the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder)To prevent ink spots and paper dust from accumulating inside the copier/fax andaffecting print quality, clean the unit’s print area periodically.Follow this procedure to clean inside the copier/fax:1 Disconnect the power cord from thecopier/fax.
