Chapter 2 Setting Up 2-15Setting UpLoading PaperThis section describes how to load plain paper in the multi-purpose tray so that you canbegin using your copier/fax.For more details on paper requirements and selecting paper, see Chapter 5, PaperHandling.Paper Guidelines• Use cut-sheet paper only, not paper that comes on a roll.• Do not use paper thicker than can be used for the copier/fax unit (1 p. 5-2). Thickpaper can come into contact with the print head nozzles and cause damage to the BJcartridge.• Do not load paper beyond the paper limit mark (P) or beyond the tab on the multi-purpose tray. Doing so may cause paper feeding or printing problems. Also, makesure there are no gaps on either side of the paper stack.• If the paper has a print side, set it in the multi-purpose tray with the print side facingupward.• The capacity of the output tray is 50 sheets of paper. To prevent paper jams, removepaper from the output tray before the count reaches 50.• Let the paper run out before refilling the multi-purpose tray. Avoid mixing “new” paperwith paper already loaded.• Do not leave paper stacked in the multi-purpose tray for long periods of time since itmay bend or curl over time, and cause paper jams or misfeeding problems.• Certain environmental conditions, such as extreme temperatures or humidity, cancause some paper to misfeed in the multi-purpose tray. If you have trouble with paperbecoming skewed or multiple sheets being fed, do not stack them in the multi-purposetray, but feed them one sheet at a time.PAPER LIMIT MARKNO GAPS HERETAB
