Chapter 13 Troubleshooting 13-3TroubleshootingClearing JamsOn occasion, the document feeding into the copier/fax’s ADF (Automatic DocumentFeeder) or the paper in the multi-purpose tray may misfeed or jam. If this happens, youcan usually fix the problem using one of the procedures described in this section.nYou do not need to unplug the copier/fax when clearing paper jams.Jams in the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder)When a document jams or misfeeds in the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder), the LCDdisplays CHECK DOCUMENT.Follow this procedure to clear the document jam:1 Press .2 Open the operation panel partially bygently pulling it toward you.• It only opens slightly.• Do not try to pull the document out withoutopening the operation panel since you maytear or smudge the document.3 While holding the operation panel open,remove the document.• Pull it gently in either direction.• If a multipage document is loaded, removethe entire document from the ADF(Automatic Document Feeder).n If the paper does not pull out easily, donot force it. Contact the Customer CareCenter.4 When you are finished, close theoperation panel by pressing it downfrom the center.• Be sure to close the operation panel until itlocks into place, or the unit will not functionproperly.5 Press to start the operation again.ResumeStop
