Chapter 12 Maintenance 12-17MaintenanceTransporting the Copier/FaxWhenever you plan to transport the copier/fax, you need to prepare it so it will not bedamaged during the move.Follow this procedure to prepare and pack your copier/fax and its components:1 Disconnect the power cord.2 DO NOT remove the BJ cartridge from the copier/fax. With the cartridgeholder in its home position on the right side of the unit, tape the BJ cartridgeand cartridge holder to the side of the unit.3 Disconnect the extension phone, answering machine, or data modem fromthe copier/fax (if connected). (2 p. 2-6)4 Disconnect the telephone line. (2 p. 2-6)5 Remove the document support. (2 p. 2-5)6 Remove the document tray. Then remove the extension from the documenttray. (2 p. 2-5)7 Replace all tapes and shipping materials you removed when you firstunpacked the copier/fax. (2 p. 2-4)8 Pack the copier/fax and all its components in the original shipping carton. (2p. 2-3)n• Do not remove the BJ cartridge from the copier/fax or ship a BJ cartridge or ink tank fromwhich you have removed the protective cap and tape. An opened BJ cartridge or ink tankthat is not installed in the copier/fax or in the BJ cartridge container may leak, and theprint head may dry out. Also, if you do not tape the BJ cartridge to the side of thecopier/fax, ink may spill into the unit.• If you no longer have the shipping carton your copier/fax came in, pack the unit in asuitably sized, sturdy cardboard box, and use bubble wrap or other suitable packingmaterials. (If you use foam peanuts, be sure to wrap the copier/fax in plastic first toprevent the packing materials from entering any openings on the unit.)
