USEFUL FUNCTIONS- 177 -2134567Encrypting PDF FilesWith “Scan to File”, “Scan to E-mail” or “Scan to USB”, you canencrypt PDF files when you select [PDF] for the file format byfollowing the procedure below.Encrypting PDF files1 On the SCAN menu, press [FILE], [E-MAIL]or [USB] for the desired scan function.For help, see the following sections: Basic Guide2 Select [PDF] for the file format and then[ON] for the security setting.The PDF SECURITY SETTINGS screen appears.Memo• If the forced encryption setting is enabled, [ON] isalways selected for the security setting. To learn moreabout the forced encryption setting, refer to the"Setting Items/Printing" ( P.211).3 Key in or select the following items, andthen press [OK].• [USER PASSWORD]Press this button to set a password for the encrypted PDFfile(s). The password is asked for when you open the file.• [MASTER PASSWORD]Press this button to set a password for changing theencryption level and authority settings.Memo• The user password and the master password are notset at the factory shipment. If the master password is tobe set, ask your network administrator.• Pressing each button displays an on-screen keyboard.Enter a password using the keyboard and digital keys,and then press [OK] to set the entry.• Passwords can consist of between 1 and 20 one-bytecharacters, including “#” and “*.”• You cannot set the same password for the user andmaster passwords.Note• Depending on the Security Setting by theAdministrator, the user and master passwords can bechanged. If you are unauthorized to change the masterpassword, you cannot change the encryption level orauthorization settings described below. To reset thesepasswords, ask your network administrator.• Encryption Level[128bit AES] — Press this button to set to an encryptionlevel compatible with Acrobat 7.0 (PDF Version 1.6).[128bit RC4] — Press this button to set to an encryptionlevel compatible with Acrobat 5.0 (PDF Version 1.4).[40bit RC4] — Press this button to set to an encryptionlevel compatible with Acrobat 3.0 (PDF Version 1.1).Note• When [128bit AES] is selected, the created PDF filescannot be printed using USB Direct Printing. In thiscase, print these files from a client computer.
