54 OKIFAX 5250|Using Your Fax with an Answering Machine [TAD]TAD is Telephone Answering Device / Fax AutomaticSwitch Mode.Use this mode to connect an answering machine to yourfax machine. Like Telephone/Fax mode, the TelephoneAnswering Device mode detects whether an incoming callis a fax or voice call. If it is a fax call, your fax machinereceives the fax. If it is a voice call, your fax machinerings just as it does in Manual Receive mode. If no oneanswers the call, your answering machine activates,allowing the calling party to leave a message. If you setthe Remote Receive User Function Number 17 (Refer tothe “User Function” section of this handbook), the callercan send a fax at any time during or after the recordedmessage by using their keypad to enter the remote receivenumber you have programmed. This number activates faxreception. Add something like this to your answeringmachine message: “To send a fax now, press XX [theprogrammed number].”Memory Reception Mode [MEM]When set to this mode, your fax machine stores receivedfaxes in memory and does not print them out immediately.Incoming Call ParametersRing Response: User Function 11This function controls how long your fax machine waitsbefore answering an incoming telephone call. The availablesettings are 1 RING (default), 5 SECONDS, 10 SECONDS,15 SECONDS, or 20 SECONDS.! At the default 1-ring setting, your fax machine answerscalls immediately, and you will not hear any ring. If youneed to hear the ring, change to one of the othersettings.Incoming Ring: User Function 16This function controls the telephone ringing sound your faxmachine makes when a call comes in. When set to off, it doesnot ring during incoming calls. The available settings are:• ON (default): Only rings when set to Manual Receive[TEL] mode or when the RING RESPONSE function isset to 5, 10, or 20 seconds.• OFF: Does not ring when a call comes in.• DRC (distinctive ring cancel): Rings for each incomingcall with the same tone, even if you have set functionsetting 12, DISTINCTIVE RING to on.
