3 - System setup—CLOCK setup3–33 Select the clock source by pressing ENTER.The popup panel provides information aboutthe potential clock source. Press ENTER toselect this source, or any one of the cursorkeys to dismiss the popup panel, and selectanother source. In the case of an IF-AE4000 (AES/EBUinterface card), there are four differentsources (the four AES/EBU inputs) whichmay be selected as the word clock source forthe TM-D4000.If the TM-D4000 has been cascaded fromanother unit, the clock source is set asCASCADE and cannot be changed. The“head” of the cascade chain can select theclock from any source. In the case of an IF-TD4000 (TDIF-1 inter-face card), the device attached to the cardsource is shown as either a DA88 ( DA-88DTRS recorder) or OTHER (another typeof recorder connected through the TDIF-1interface). If the indicator shows DA88, thenI/O data is truncated to 16 bits, otherwise I/Ois carried out at 24 bits.In the case of an IF-LP4000 (ADAT “light-pipe” interface card), there are threeoptions: INT, SYNC or DIGI. If morethan one IF-LP4000 is fitted, changing thesetting for one card will change the settingsfor all the rest. The INT setting allows theADAT to act as the clock master (this is not arecommended setting). If SYNC is selected, the ADAT receives its clock through theSYNC cable, and if DIGI is selected, theoptical connection is used as the clock sourceto the ADAT. We strongly suggest thatSYNC is used, rather than DIGI, if theADAT is to be a word clock slave, especiallyif more than one ADAT is connected. See also9.4.4, “ADAT devices”.If more than one IF-LP4000 card is fitted, there are three choices for each card, regard-less of the actual connection of the ADATunits to the TM-D4000. The last on-screenbutton pressed (on any of the IF-LP4000options) then determines the status of thefirst ADAT in the chain. 14 If the clock source has been selected as INT,the clock rate (sampling frequency) can beselected. In all other cases, the sampling fre-quency is fixed and cannot be changed.3.2.1 Selecting clock frequenciesWord clock sources, except for WORD and ADATsources, include information regarding their sam-pling frequencies. If either WORD or ADAT isselected as a clock source, the procedure belowshould be followed:1 Decide what sampling frequency the projectwill use.2 Select INT as the clock source (this is atemporary measure), and select the fre-quency.3 Select the final clock source (WORD orADAT). The TM-D4000 sampling fre-quency will now match the incoming wordclock.1. Note that the other ADAT units, “daisy-chained” to the first ADAT unit in the chainwith SYNC connections, will be automaticallyset to take their clock from the SYNC connec-tor, and their IDs will also be set automati-cally, regardless of setting made here.
