10 - MIDI—MIDI Implementation Chart10–61) Connect the MIDI OUT of your MIDIinterface or sequencer to the MIDI IN of theTM-D4000.10.8.4Preparing to upgradeUpgrading the system software will not lose anydata, so there is no need to take any special precau-tions when upgrading.1) If you have been running the TM-D4000automation software and you intend to use thecomputer which runs the automationsoftware to perform the upgrade, quit theautomation software.Macintosh and MacOS users should enablethe MIDI interface system Extension if it hasbeen disabled, and restart the computer ifnecessary.2) Open the le containing the upgrade le withyour MIDI sequencer. If you are using a dedicated MIDI sequencer, you should transfer the le to the sequencerfrom your computer using an appropriately-formatted oppy disk.10.8.5Upgrading1) Start playing the MIDI le (as if it was asequence le).The MIDI data will start to be transferred tothe TM-D4000.2) The display of the TM-D4000 will change toshow the number of received data blocks.3) When the data has been transferred, the TM-D4000 will update its ROM memory and resetitself. WARNINGDo not turn off the power or interrupt the TM-D4000’s updating process while the followingmessage is displayed on the TM-D4000 dis-play screen:Updating ROMs, please waitThis message will appear as a blinking mes-sage for between 20 and 40 seconds after“playback” has nished.10.8.6Notes on the upgrade processThe update process will take some time. The mainportion of the system software will take about 15minutes to transfer, the panel software will takeabout 13 minutes, and the remote modules portion ofthe system software will take about v e minutes. If the transfer is interrupted part of the way through(for instance, the power is cut to the TM-D4000),when the TM-D4000 is next turned on, a messagewill appear on the display screen, asking you to makethe transfer again. As noted, you should not interrupt the update processafter the transfer of data has ended, and the TM-D4000 is updating its ROM memory.10.8.7 A note on using sequencerprogramsIf the computer mouse is moved while the upgrade isunder way, there may be problems with the updateprocess. Some computer software is particularly sus-ceptible to input from the keyboard or mouse while“heavy-duty” background processes, such as bulktransfer of MIDI data, are going onThese difculties may include the corruption of thesystem software, making it impossible to re-start theTM-D4000 and necessitating a change to the ashROMs by service personnel. For this reason, once you have started the “playback”of the upgrade software to the TM-D4000, westrongly recommend that you should not touch thecomputer or any peripherals until the uploading pro-cess is complete, as shown on the TM-D4000display.
