13 - Rear panel & connections—Analog outputs, etc.13–2[54] PHANTOM (+48V) 1–4 & 5–8switchesWhen turned on, these switches provide +48 V phan-tom powering to the XLR-type MIC connectors [47]on the eight integral analog input channels, for pow-ering condenser microphones.WARNINGMake sure that these switches are not turnedon if equipment which does not require phan-tom power is connected to these jacks, and ifthe MICinput is selected [50].[55] L (MONO) & R inputs (ST IN 1 & 2)These unbalanced 1/4-inch jacks are used to acceptsignals coming from external signal processors, etc.,and the levels are controlled by the two ST IN faders. The nominal signal level of these inputs is +4 dBu,and the input impedance is 10 kΩ . The level can beadjusted using the TRIM control [52].If only one signal is to be input to these channels, theL (MONO) jack should be used for connection.13.2Analog outputs, etc. These connectors are all located on the horizontal toppanel of the TM-D4000.[56] AUX OUTPUTSThese six unbalanced 1/4-inch jacks provide the out-puts from the six Aux busses available on the TM-D4000. The level of these busses is controlled by fad-ers 9 through 14, when the LAYER STATUSMASTER indicator [3] is lit. The nominal level is+4 dBu, and the impedance is 100 Ω.The individual channel Aux send levels are set eitherin the MODULE or the AUX screens.NOTEAux sends 1 and 2 can be selected to be pre-or post-fader, and can also have the talkbackmic routed directly to them. For these rea-sons, you may wish to use these as studioheadphone feeds when recording, using themto set up a separate monitoring mix, and usethem as effect sends on mixdown.[57] 2TR RTN (BALANCED)This pair of balanced XLR-type connectors is usedfor the analog returns from a 2-track masteringrecorder. The nominal signal level of these inputs is +4 dBu,and the input impedance is 20 kΩ.[58] 2TR RTN (UNBALANCED)This pair of unbalanced RCA inputs is used for theanalog returns from a 2-track mastering recorder. The nominal level of these inputs is –10 dBV, and theinput impedance is 20 kΩ.[59] STEREO OUTPUTS (UNBALANCED)This pair of RCA connectors outputs the stereo OUTas an analog signal. The nominal level of these unbalanced outputs is–10 dBV, and the output impedance is 600 Ω.[60] STEREO OUTPUTS (BALANCED)This pair of XLR-type connectors outputs the stereoOUT as an analog signal. The nominal level of these balanced outputs(1=ground, 2=hot, 3=cold) is +4 dBu, and the outputimpedance is 75 Ω.[61] MONITOR OUTPUTS (CR andSTUDIO)These two pairs of 1/4-inch connectors output thesignal selected using the monitor select keys [22].The signal output selected by these keys is identicalin each set of connectors, but the volume can beadjusted individually for each set ([63] and [65]), andthe talkback mic [70] is routed directly to theSTUDIO outputs. In addition, the control room output can be dimmed, and can be put into mono (see below). These are balanced outputs, with tip=hot, ring=coldand sleeve=ground. The nominal level is +4 dBu, and the output imped-ance is 100 Ω .13.3TalkbackThe talkback controls are all located on the top panelof the TM-D4000, at the right side. For more infor-mation regarding talkback, see 5.1.3, “Talkback”.
