Discard all used gaskets,O-rings and seals. Use new gaskets, O-rings andseals for reassembly of engine.NOTICEIdentify all parts and their location using anappropriate method. It is important that all parts arereturned to the same position during thereassembly process.IMPORTANTMark all valve train components so they canbe installed in their original locations.Note: Record all measurements taken duringdisassembly.If the engine will be completely disassembled, thefollowing preliminary steps should be performed:1. Disconnect the battery cables at the battery.Always disconnect the negative (-) cable first.2. Remove the throttle cable, electricalconnections, intake and exhaust systemconnections, and fuel supply lines from theengine.3. Remove the alternator. See Removal ofAlternator on page 11-10.4. Drain the engine coolant from the radiator andcylinder block. See Drain, Flush and RefillCooling System with New Coolant onpage 5-21. Remove the cooling systemcomponents from the engine.NOTICEBe sure to secure the engine solidly to preventinjury or damage to parts due to the engine fallingduring work on the engine.
