If the depth measures lessthan the limit, use a hacksaw blade(Figure 10-14, (3)) to remove the insulatingmaterial until the depth is within the limit. SeeStarter Motor Specifications on page 10-5 forservice limit.A normal commutator condition is indicated in(Figure 10-14, (4)). An abnormal commutatorcondition is indicated in (Figure 10-14, (5)).Figure 10-14Armature Coil Continuity TestCheck for continuity between the commutatorsegments using a multimeter (Figure 10-15). Themultimeter should indicate continuity.If the multimeter does not indicate continuity,replace the armature.Figure 10-15Armature Coil Insulation TestCheck for continuity between a commutatorsegment and the shaft or armature using amultimeter (Figure 10-16).
