SAFETY3-12 TNV IDI Service ManualSafety PrecautionsNOTICEIt is important to perform daily checks.Periodic maintenance prevents unexpecteddowntime, reduces the number of accidents due topoor machine performance and helps extend thelife of the engine.NOTICEIf the oil pump must be replaced, replace it as anassembly only. Do not replace individualcomponents.NOTICEDo not loosen or remove the four bolts retaining thefuel injection pump drive gear to the fuel injectionpump hub. Do not disassemble the fuel injectionpump drive gear from the hub. Correct fuel injectiontiming will be very difficult or impossible to achieve.NOTICEThe starter motor can be damaged if operatedcontinuously longer than 10 seconds whileperforming the no-load test.NOTICEDo not short-circuit the charging system betweenalternator terminals IG and L. Damage to thealternator will result.NOTICEDo not connect a load between alternator terminalsL and E. Damage to the alternator will result.NOTICEDo not remove the positive (+) battery cable fromalternator terminal B while the engine is operating.Damage to the alternator will result.NOTICEDo not turn the battery switch OFF while the engineis operating. Damage to the alternator will result.NOTICEDo not operate the engine if the alternator isproducing unusual sounds. Damage to thealternator will result.NOTICEIf the engine coolant pump must be replaced, replace the engine coolant pump as an assemblyonly. Do not attempt to repair the engine coolantpump or replace individual components.NOTICEUse a new special O-ring between the enginecoolant pump and the joint. Be sure to use thespecial O-ring for each engine model. Although theO-ring dimensions are the same as a commerciallyavailable O-ring, the material is different.NOTICERemove or install the high-pressure fuel injectionlines as an assembly whenever possible.Disassembling the high-pressure fuel injection linesfrom the retainers or bending any of the fuel lineswill make it difficult to reinstall the fuel lines.NOTICEAfter marking the position of the pump drive gear,do not rotate the engine crankshaft. Rotating thecrankshaft will cause the fuel injection pump tobecome misaligned.NOTICEDo not use a high-pressure wash directly on thealternator. Water will damage the alternator andresult in inadequate charging.NOTICEDo not reverse the positive (+) and negative (-)ends of the battery cable. The alternator diode andstator coil will be damaged.
