ALTERNATOR11-18 TNV IDI Service ManualTesting of DynamoTESTING OF DYNAMOUse a circuit tester or multimeter to perform thefollowing tests.Testing Stator Coil Continuity1. Disconnect the dynamo output wire connector.2. Connect one meter lead to each of the statorwire terminals and read the meter. Results: The meter reading should indicatecontinuity. If continuity is not indicated, the windingsare open and the stator must be replaced.Testing Stator Coil Short-to-Ground1. Disconnect the dynamo output wire connector.2. Test continuity between each stator wireterminal and engine ground. Results: The meter reading should indicate infinity. If the meter reading indicates continuity, thewindings are shorted to ground and the stator mustbe replaced.Testing Dynamo Regulated Output1. Test and record the battery voltage with theengine OFF.2. Start the engine and operate it at normaloperating rpm.3. Check the battery voltage with the enginerunning. Results: The meter reading with the enginerunning must be higher than with the engine notrunning.• If results are not correct, test the stator forcontinuity and shorts to the ground.• Check the charging system wiring.• If no problems are found in previous checks, replace the IC regulator.DYNAMORemoval of Dynamo1. Disconnect the output wire connector from thedynamo.2. Loosen the V-belt.CAUTIONPINCH HAZARD!Carefully rotate the alternatortoward the cylinder block whileloosening the V-belt. Failure tocomply may result in minor ormoderate injury.3. Remove the V-belt adjuster from the dynamobolt (Figure 11-23, (1)).4. Remove the nut (Figure 11-23, (2)) from thegear case stud. Remove the dynamo.Figure 11-230002141(1)(2)
