When the ignition is on, the brake system warninglight will also come on when you set your parkingbrake. The light will stay on if your parking brakedoes not release fully. If it stays on after yourparking brake is fully released, it means you have abrake problem.If the light comes on while you are driving, pull offthe road and stop carefully. You may noticethat the pedal is harder to push, or the pedal maygo closer to the floor. It may take longer tostop. If the light is still on, have the vehicle towedfor service. Driving with the brake systemwarning light on can lead to an accident.If the light is still on after you have pulledoff the road and stopped carefully, havethe vehicle towed for service.Anti-Lock Brake System WarningLightWith the Anti-LockBrake System (ABS),the light will come onwhen your engine isstarted and stay on forseveral seconds. This isnormal.If the ABS warning light comes on and stays on,there may be a problem with the anti-lockportion of the brake system. If the brake systemwarning light is not on, you still have brakes,but you do not have anti-lock brakes. See BrakeSystem Warning Light on page 204 for moreinformation.If the light stays on, turn the ignition to OFF. If thelight comes on when you are driving, stop assoon as possible and turn the ignition off. Thenstart the engine again to reset the system. Ifthe light still stays on, or comes on again whileyou are driving, your vehicle needs service.205
