Automatic Transmission Shift LockControl System Check{CAUTION:When you are doing this inspection, thevehicle could move suddenly. If thevehicle moves, you or others could beinjured.1. Before you start, be sure you have enoughroom around the vehicle. It should be parkedon a level surface.2. Firmly apply the parking brake. See ParkingBrake on page 127.Be ready to apply the regular brakeimmediately if the vehicle begins to move.3. With the engine off, turn the ignition to ON,but do not start the engine. Without applyingthe regular brake, try to move the shiftlever out of PARK (P) with normal effort. If theshift lever moves out of PARK (P), contactyour GM Goodwrench® dealer for service.Ignition Transmission Lock CheckWhile parked, and with the parking brake set, tryto turn the ignition to OFF in each shift leverposition.• The ignition should turn to OFF only when theshift lever is in PARK (P).• The ignition key should come out only in OFF.Contact your GM Goodwrench® dealer if serviceis required.478
