This information has been usedto improve vehicle crash performance and may beused to improve crash performance of futurevehicles and driving safety. Unlike the datarecorders on many airplanes, these on-boardsystems do not record sounds, such asconversation of vehicle occupants.To read this information, special equipment isneeded and access to the vehicle or the devicethat stores the data is required.
