Service and Maintenance. . . 410To check the fluid level:1. Turn off the ignition and letthe engine compartment cooldown.2. If your vehicle is a CTS-Vmodel, you must remove theengine cover before you canaccess the fill cap.See "Engine Cover" earlier inthis section.3. Wipe the cap and the top ofthe reservoir clean.4. Unscrew the cap and wipe thedipstick clean. Replace the capand completely tighten it.5. Remove the cap again andcheck the fluid level on thedipstick.The level should be betweenthe HOT and COLD marks.If the level is low, see the"Recommended Fluids andLubricants" chart later in thissection to determine what kind offluid to add.NOTICEUsing the wrong kind offluid could damage systemcomponents and cause leaks.Always use the proper fluid.Brake Master Cylinder FluidThere are two reasons why thebrake fluid level in the mastercylinder might go down. The firstis that the brake fluid level decreas-es by an acceptable amountduring normal brake lining wear.When new linings are put in, thefluid level goes back up.
