425 . . .––––Section 4HIGH SPEED OPERATIONCAUTIONDriving at high speeds,160 km/h (100 mph) or higher, puts an additional strain ontires. Sustained high-speeddriving causes excessive heatbuildup and can cause suddentire failure. You could crash andyou or others could be killed. Some high-speed rated tiresrequire inflation pressureadjustment for high-speedoperation. When speed limitsand road conditions permit avehicle to be driven at highspeeds, make sure the tires arerated for high-speed operation, are in excellent condition, andare set to the correct cold tireinflation pressure for the vehicleload. You must adjust the tire pressurefor high-speed driving if thevehicle is equipped with thefollowing high-performance tiresizes:• 235/50ZR18• 255/40R19• 285/35R19If you will be driving at speeds of160 km/h (100 mph) or faster, where it is legal, set the cold infla-tion pressure to the maximuminflation pressure shown on thetire sidewall or to 300 kPa (44psi),whichever is lower. When you endthis high-speed driving, return tothe cold inflation pressure shownon the tire information label.See "Vehicle Loading" in Section 3for more information.Tire Pressure Monitor (Ifequipped)NOTICEModifications made to the tirepressure monitor system byanyone other than an autho-rized service facility may voidauthorization to use the system. This system uses radio and sensortechnology to monitor tirepressure.AKENG40_CTS Page 425 Wednesday, July 23, 2008 11:47 AM
