2019 Malibu Boats, LLC Owner’s Manual • Page 89BasicElectrical ComponentsAll major boat circuits are protected from shorting and overloadby resettable circuit breakers. If a problem develops with one of thecircuits, switch OFF the circuit and wait about one (1) minute. Thenpush the appropriate breaker button fully and switch ON the circuit. If the circuit continues to trip, there is a problem somewhere in thesystem. Take your boat to an authorized Malibu dealer to locate andsafely correct the issue.Circuit BreakersIf a circuit breaker continuesto trip, do not hold thebreaker in position toactivate the electricalcircuit. See an authorized Malibu dealer immediately tolocate and correct the issue before operating the boat. The circuit breaker panel is located on the driver’s helm shifter panel. The M235 has a control panel with circuit breakers in the walk-through.Circuit breakers are resettable, unlike fuses that require replacement.Fuse BoxIn addition to the circuit breakers that control the majority ofelectrical activity on the boat, Malibu engines also have a fuse box onthe engine. See photo. This fuse box aids in controlling various electronic functionalitywithin the engine. Its purpose is to prevent electrical overload tovarious key electronic elements. If the fuse “kicks” off, it tends to bea signal that certain vital operations have experienced an electricalsurge that could have caused significant damage to the system if thefuse had not blown. The fuse box can be opened to replace the fuse. (Unlike circuitbreakers that “trip,” a fuse must be replaced.) When possible, havethis function serviced by an authorized Malibu dealer, who can checkthe entire system inan effort to determinethe source or cause ofthe fuse malfunction. Ifthe fuse blows duringan outing, never pryor force open the box.The top should popoff the housing withminimal effort. Insidethe housing will beseveral fuses, the sizeis denoted on the top ofthe fuse. There is also a Primary and Secondary fuse box under thedash that contains fuses. Each box has a labeled/detailed picture oflocation, fuse size, and which circuit it protects. There are also one or two fuse boxes under the dash, dependingon the model. If a fuse blows repeatedly, it is symptomatic of a recurring issuethat must be addressed. Such repair should be undertaken by yourauthorized Malibu dealer.Electrical Harnesses and WiringYour Malibu boat is equipped with several electrical harnessesproviding power within the drive train and to various ancillary func-tions of the boat. Due to the complexity of the boats wiring, much ofwhich is inaccessible inside the hull and under the deck, any time anissue is suspected involving the wiring or any of the harnesses, theboat owner is strongly encouraged to have the boat serviced by anauthorized Malibu dealer.Electrical wiring or harnessissues should always beaddressed by an authorizedMalibu dealer. Alteration of wiring from the originalMalibu design could result in shock hazard, potentialspark that could lead to fire, or other dangeroussituations. Any disruption of the wiring from its originalplan and resultant damage to components or the boat isnot covered under warranty. Individuals could also beinjured by such error.BatteriesMalibu offers batteries as an option. If the boat owner choosesto equip the boat with batteries of his/her own choosing, there arecertain requirements for starting and the operation of the boat, whichis addressed later in this section.
