Malibu Monsoon Engines,Transmissions & V-DrivesMalibu Boats offer a variety of outstanding powertrain options.During the inaugural year of our own Malibu Monsoon Engine, thecompany will offer a 6.2L version, with a 5.3L becoming availableduring the model year. Also available throughout the year are 6.0L,6.2L and 6.2L Super-Charged LSA Monsoon Engines by PEG.Although each engine offers different experiences, all engines arebased on the General Motors platform.Monsoon by PEG engine information is provided by PCM/PEGin a separate manual. Boats equipped with Monsoon by PEG engineshave a specific set of instructions for operation, care and maintenancewhich must be followed in order to keep the warranty in effect.Boats equipped with Malibu Monsoon engines also requireproper attention to adhere to warranty policy.Note that these instructions should be followed even afterthe warranty period has expired. The instructions developed for thepowertrains and drivetrains in Malibu boats function as the guidelinesto a long-term, positive boating experience.Failure to follow engineoperation, care and maint-enance instructions asprovided in either the PCM/PEG owner’s manual or in this section of the MalibuOwner’s Manual (depending on the equipped engine) canresult in damage to the engine and transmission that is notcovered under warranty. Under some circumstances, thiscould result in the boat becoming inoperable, strandingboaters and/or placing those on-board in situations thatcould result in potentially dangerous situations.Malibu has teamed with General Motors to produce the idealengine and transmission for the expected usage of the boat. BecauseMalibu boats were created to further enjoyment of watersports,the power curve and maximum performance of the package weredesigned to enhance every aspect of the experience.The following information is providedfor the Malibu Monsoon Engines. Unlessotherwise directed, the instructions areapplicable to both the 6.2L and 5.3Lengines.SafetySignificant safety information appears in the opening chapterof this Owner’s Manual. It is critical to read the entire manual, withparticular attention to the Safety information. All boat owners andboat operators must adhere to the safety requirements as described.It is also the responsibility of these individuals to be aware of U.S.Coast Guard regulations when boating in U.S. waterways, or thegoverning body(ies) of any waterway system in which the boat isoperated.Failure to read and follow this informationwill NOT exempt or excuse boaters from therequirements. This information also materially impacts the boat’swarranty coverage. It is the owner’s and/or operator’s responsibilityto perform all inspections and required maintenance prior to theoperation of the boat, without exception.In addition to the opening chapter, the following drive-trainspecific, safety-related material is provided. Please review and followthese guidelines to ensure the safety of yourself, boat operators,passengers and others who may be in the area.Prior to OperationFollow the instructions as described in Before Each Use in theCare and Maintenance section of this Owner’s Manual.To prevent a possibleexplosion, alwaysoperate the blower untilit automatically shuts off, prior to starting the engine.Always operate the blower when the engine is idling orat a low running speed. Improper ventilation can leadto accumulation of gasoline or exhaust fumes in thecompartment. This can lead to a fire or explosion, eitherof which can result in serious injury or death!Never start the engine inthe presence of fumes orsigns of gasoline leakage.Always avoid smoking or open flame near the enginecompartment.Other Safety Double-ChecksThroughout this section of the Owner’s Manual, additional safetyissues are reiterated. Always follow these instructions.
