To achieve theseemissions standards, your vehicle is equippedwith a state-of-the-art engine and exhaustsystem. These systems are seamlesslyintegrated into your vehicle and managed bythe Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCMmanages engine combustion to allow theexhaust system’s catalyst to trap and burnParticulate Matter (PM) pollutants, with no inputor interaction on your part.Your vehicle has the ability to alert you toadditional maintenance required on yourvehicle or engine. Refer to the followingmessages that may be displayed on yourinstrument cluster: Exhaust Filter XX% Full Safely Drive atHighway Speeds to Remedy — This messagewill be displayed in the instrument cluster ifthe exhaust particulate filter reaches 80% ofits maximum storage capacity. Under condi-tions of exclusive short duration and lowspeed driving cycles, your diesel engine andexhaust after-treatment system may neverreach the conditions required to cleanse thefilter to remove the trapped PM. If thisoccurs, the “Exhaust Filter XX% Full SafelyDrive at Highway Speeds to Remedy”message will be displayed in the instrumentcluster display. If this message is displayed,you will hear one chime to assist in alertingyou of this condition. By simply driving yourvehicle at highway speeds for up to20 minutes, you can remedy the condition inthe particulate filter system and allow yourdiesel engine and exhaust after-treatmentsystem to cleanse the filter to remove thetrapped PM and restore the system to normaloperating condition. Exhaust System — Regeneration In ProcessExhaust Filter XX% Full — This message indi-cates that the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)is self-cleaning. Maintain your current drivingcondition until regeneration is completed. Exhaust System — Regeneration Completed— This message indicates that the DieselParticulate Filter (DPF) self-cleaning iscompleted. If this message is displayed, youwill hear one chime to assist in alerting you ofthis condition. Exhaust Service Required — See Dealer Now— This messages indicates regeneration hasbeen disabled due to a system malfunction.At this point the engine Powertrain ControlModule (PCM) will register a fault code, theinstrument panel will display a MIL light. Exhaust Filter Full — Power Reduced SeeDealer — This message indicates the PCMhas derated the engine to limit the likelihoodof permanent damage to the after-treatmentWARNING!A hot exhaust system can start a fire if youpark over materials that can burn. Such mate-rials might be grass or leaves coming intocontact with your exhaust system. Do notpark or operate your vehicle in areas whereyour exhaust system can contact anythingthat can burn.CAUTION!See an authorized dealer, as damage to theexhaust system could occur soon with contin-ued operation.3
