STARTING AND OPERATING 271PARKSENSE ACTIVE PARK ASSIST SYSTEM— IF EQUIPPEDThe ParkSense Active Park Assist system isintended to assist the driver during parallel andperpendicular parking maneuvers by identifyinga proper parking space, providing audible/visual instructions, and controlling the steeringwheel. The ParkSense Active Park Assist systemis defined as “semi-automatic” since the drivermaintains control of the accelerator, gearselector and brakes. Depending on the driver'sparking maneuver selection, the ParkSenseActive Park Assist system is capable ofmaneuvering a vehicle into a parallel or aperpendicular parking space on either side (i.e.,driver side or passenger side).NOTE: The driver is always responsible forcontrolling the vehicle, responsible for anysurrounding objects, and must intervene asrequired. The system is provided to assist the driverand not to substitute the driver. During a semi-automatic maneuver, if thedriver touches the steering wheel after beinginstructed to remove their hands from thesteering wheel, the system will cancel, andthe driver will be required to manuallycomplete the parking maneuver. The system may not work in all conditions(e.g. environmental conditions such as heavyrain, snow, etc., or if searching for a parkingspace that has surfaces that will absorb theultrasonic sensor waves). New vehicles from the dealership must haveat least 30 miles (48 km) accumulatedbefore the ParkSense Active Park AssistWARNING! Drivers must be careful when backing upeven when using ParkSense. Always checkcarefully behind your vehicle, look behindyou, and be sure to check for pedestrians, animals, other vehicles, obstructions, andblind spots before backing up. You areresponsible for safety and must continue topay attention to your surroundings. Failureto do so can result in serious injury ordeath. Before using ParkSense, it is stronglyrecommended that the ball mount andhitch ball assembly is disconnected fromthe vehicle when the vehicle is not used fortowing. Failure to do so can result in injuryor damage to vehicles or obstaclesbecause the hitch ball will be much closerto the obstacle than the rear fascia whenthe loudspeaker sounds the continuoustone. Also, the sensors could detect the ballmount and hitch ball assembly, dependingon its size and shape, and give a false indi-cation that an obstacle is behind thevehicle, and could cause false braking.CAUTION! ParkSense is only a parking aid and it isunable to recognize every obstacle, including small obstacles. Parking curbsmight be temporarily detected or notdetected at all. Obstacles located above orbelow the sensors will not be detectedwhen they are in close proximity. The vehicle must be driven slowly whenusing ParkSense in order to be able to stopin time when an obstacle is detected. It isrecommended that the driver looks overhis/her shoulder when using ParkSense.5
