234 STARTING AND OPERATINGProper operation of four-wheel drive vehiclesdepends on tires of equal size, type andcircumference on each wheel. Any difference intire size can cause damage to the drivetrain.Because four-wheel drive provides improvedtraction, there is a tendency to exceed safeturning and stopping speeds. Do not go fasterthan road conditions permit.Shifting ProcedureNOTE: If any of the requirements to select a newtransfer case position have not been met, thetransfer case will not shift. The position indi-cator light for the previous position willremain ON and the newly selected positionindicator light will continue to flash until allthe requirements for the selected positionhave been met. If all the requirements to select a newtransfer case position have been met, thecurrent position indicator light will turn OFF,the selected position indicator light will flashuntil the transfer case completes the shift. When the shift is complete, the position indi-cator light for the selected position will stopflashing and remain ON.ACTIVE-LEVEL FOUR CORNER AIRSUSPENSION SYSTEM — IF EQUIPPEDDescriptionThe air suspension system provides full timeload leveling capability along with the benefit ofbeing able to adjust vehicle height by the pushof a switch.Air Suspension SwitchNOTE:The vehicle will automatically enter Aero Modewhen the vehicle speed remains between62 mph (100 km/h) and 66 mph (106 km/h)for greater than 20 seconds or if the vehiclespeed exceeds 66 mph (106 km/h). Normal Ride Height (NRH) – This is the stan-dard position of the suspension and is meantfor normal driving. Off-Road 1 (OR1) (Raises the vehicle approxi-mately 1 inch (26 mm)) – This position shouldbe the primary position for all off-road drivinguntil Off-Road 2 (OR2) is needed. A smootherand more comfortable ride will result. To enterOR1, push the height selector switch up oncefrom the NRH position while the vehicle speedis below 35 mph (56 km/h). When in the OR1position, if the vehicle speed remains between40 mph (64 km/h) and 50 mph (80 km/h) forgreater than 20 seconds or if the vehiclespeed exceeds 50 mph (80 km/h), the vehiclewill be automatically lowered to NRH. Off-Road1 may not be available due to vehicle payload,an instrument cluster message will bedisplayed when this occurs.
