76 GETTING TO KNOW YOUR VEHICLETAILGATEOpeningThe power tailgate may be opened by pushingthe tailgate release pad located on the tailgatedoor.The tailgate damper strut will lower the tailgateto the open position (if equipped).Electronic Tailgate Release — If EquippedThe key fob may be equipped with anelectronic release feature for thetailgate, allowing hands-free tailgateopening. To activate, push andrelease the Tailgate Release button on the keyfob twice within five seconds. The tailgate doorwill unlatch, and slowly lower into the openposition.If equipped, a button on the center overheadconsole inside the vehicle can be used torelease the tailgate. An indicator light may alsosignal when the tailgate is open (if equipped).For the tailgate to lower, the vehicle must be: In PARK or NEUTRAL Stationary (0 mph / 0 km/h)NOTE:The Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover (if equipped) mayprevent Electronic Tailgate Release if installed.The Tonneau Cover must be removed or foldedup before releasing the tailgate. Refer to“Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover — If Equipped” in thischapter for further information.ClosingTo close the tailgate, push it upward until bothsides are latched.NOTE:Pull back on the tailgate firmly after closing toensure it is securely latched.Multifunction Tailgate — If EquippedThe multifunction tailgate (if equipped) is a60/40 split tailgate with two swing doors toallow for closer access to the pickup box withthe doors open.OpeningThe tailgate must be latched closed to open theswing doors. Push the paddle down, then pullthe release handle beneath the tailgatelowering handle. This opens the larger of thetwo doors.Swing Door Release HandleCAUTION!To prevent possible damage, do not slam thehood to close it. Use a firm downward push atthe front center of the hood to ensure thatboth latches engage.
