15 Problem Solving138Problem Solving15SMBThis section describes the troubleshooting, and notes and restrictions when usingSMB.TroubleshootingThe possible causes, check points, and remedies for problems when using SMB are asfollows.When you cannot communicate with the printerWhen you cannot printCause Check point RemedyThe computer and themachine are using differentprotocols.While [Search for OtherComputers] ([Start] >[Search] > [OtherComputers]) on the computeris showing the printer,[Network Computer] does notshow the printer.Configure the machine andeach computer to use thesame SMB operationalprotocol.The machine belongs todifferent networks (subnets).While [Search for OtherComputers] ([Start] >[Search] > [OtherComputers]) on the computeris showing the printer,[Network Computer] does notshow the printer.When the machine and thecomputers are on differentnetworks, consult yournetwork administrator.The host name for themachine is already in use.Print out the [System SettingsList] to confirm if “RepetitiveHost Name” is printed in theSMB status information.Use the CentreWare InternetServices to change the hostname to a unique name, orinitialize the machine settingsto its default.Cause Check point RemedyThe machine is processing arequest from a differentcomputer.(When the [SMB (Spool)] isset to [Off])Confirm the machine isprocessing a print job. (Awrite error dialog should bedisplayed to indicate thatthere is no room for the printqueue available.)Wait till the machine finishesprocessing the print job, orchange the machine settingto [Spool] mode.Number of connections to themachine exceeded themaximum connectionsallowed.Confirm if the machine isprocessing simultaneousprocessing requests (printrequests, status queries, etc.)from multiple computers. (Awrite error dialog should bedisplayed to indicate that nomore remote computers canbe connected.)Wait for a while and retryprinting.
