Chapter 12 Maintenance 12-5MaintenanceCleaning the Scanner ComponentsFollow this procedure to periodically check and clean the scanner components:1 Disconnect the power cord from the unit.2 Open the document tray.*3 Open the operation panel partially bygently pulling it towards you.• It only opens slightly.4 While holding the operation panelopen, clean these components:❚ Separation guide and separation rollerWipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth.❚ White sheet and scanning glassWipe with a clean, soft, lint-free clothmoistened with water, then wipe with aclean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth.n• If the scanner components are dirty,the documents you send or copy willalso be dirty.• Be sure to use a soft cloth to avoidscratching the components.c Do not use tissue paper, papertowels, or similar materials forcleaning; they can stick to thecomponents or generate staticcharges.SCANNING GLASSSEPARATION ROLLERWHITE SHEETSEPARATION GUIDE* Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia only.
