The battery contains an integratedelectronic fuel gauge and a safety protection circuit.Because of the bias current needed to operate the integrated electronics, the battery discharges evenwhen it is not installed in the device. The rate at which it discharges is dependent on the ambienttemperature at which it is stored. The higher the temperature, the more quickly it discharges. To prolongthe battery’s charge when not in use, store the battery in a cool, dry location.A new, fully-charged battery should last for approximately 6 hours (typical) of continuous monitoringwithout printing. An on-screen LED indicates the condition and capacity of the battery’s charge. (Formore information on the battery gauge, refer to 2.2.1.1 Front View on page 33 and 15.7 SystemErrors on page 176). When the LED flashes amber, connect the device to AC power to charge the batteryto full capacity. As the battery ages, the full charge capacity of the battery degrades and is permanently lost. As a result, the amount of charge that is stored and available for use is reduced. When the capacity is no longersufficient for your daily operation, you need to replace the battery.Operator Manual 14.3 Battery Maintenance2053535-002 Revision T MAC 2000 ECG Analysis System 166/198
