6 - WPT PAGES116Finding the Desired AirportFinding the Desired AirportYour 500W-series unit uses ICAO identifiers for allairports. All U.S. airport identifiers which contain onlyletters use the prefix “K”. For example, Los AngelesInternational is KLAX under the ICAO standard. Otherairports, such as Otten Memorial (3VS), that containnumbers in the identifier, do not require the “K”prefix. Alaska, Hawaii and many foreign countries usetwo letter prefixes.If you encounter difficulty when selecting an air-port, try retrieving the desired airport using the facilityname or the city in which it is located.After a WPT page is selected, information for awaypoint may be viewed by entering the identifier (orname) of the desired waypoint.Enter a waypoint identifier on the top lineof any WPT page (using the small and largeright knobs). Once entered, the databaseinformation for the selected waypoint isdisplayed.To enter a waypoint identifier:1. Select the desired WPT page and press thesmall right knob to activate the cursor.2. Turn the small right knob to select the firstcharacter of the waypoint’s identifier.3. Turn the large right knob to select the nextcharacter field.4. Turn the small right knob to select the desiredcharacter.5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the identifier isselected, then press ENT.6. To remove the flashing cursor, press the smallright knob. If duplicate waypoints exist, seethe following pages for a description.Airports, NDBs and VORs may be selected byidentifier, facility name or city location.Enter a waypoint’s facility name or city loca-tion on the top or middle line of the “Facility,City & Region” data field (this option appliesto airports, VORs and NDBs only).To enter a waypoint facility name or city location:1. Select the Airport Location Page, NDB Page orVOR Page from the WPT page group.2. Press the small right knob to activate thecursor.3. Turn the large right knob to select the facilityname or location (city) field.4. Turn the small right knob to select the desiredcharacter.5. Turn the large right knob to select the nextcharacter field.6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the facility name orlocation is selected, then press ENT.
