5 - PROCEDURES851. Prior to departing KFDK, the destination (KLYH)is selected using the direct-to key or by cre-ating a flight plan terminating at LynchburgRegional.2. While en route to KLYH, some 40-50 nauti-cal miles away, you select the ATIS frequencyto monitor airport conditions and runwayusage. This is accomplished by displaying theNAVCOM Page and selecting the ATIS fre-quency from the list. This places the frequencyon standby. Use the COM flip-flop key tomake the ATIS frequency active.3. From ATIS you learn that runway 04 is in useand plan your approach accordingly. Pressthe PROC key and select the “VOR 04-GPS”approach. From the transitions window, selectLYH VOR (the IAF). Also, select “Load?” to load(but not activate) the approach.Press PROC, highlight “Select Approach?” and press ENT. Fromthe pop-up window, select the “VOR 04” approach into KLYH.A second pop-up window displays available transitions. High-light LYH VOR and press ENT. Finally, select “Load?” to add theapproach to the active flight plan.4. If you are cleared direct to the IAF, press thePROC key, select “Activate Approach?” andpress ENT.Flying the Procedure Turn1. Within 31 nautical miles of the destination air-port, or when transitioning to the first waypointof an arrival procedure, the 500W-series unitswitches from “en route” mode to “terminal”mode (as indicated in the lower left corner ofthe screen).
