16TAKEOFF TOURDirect-To NavigationDirect-To NavigationThe 500W-series unit can use direct point-to-pointnavigation to guide you from takeoff to touchdown,even in the IFR environment. Once a destination isselected, the unit provides course and distance databased upon a direct course from your present positionto your destination. A destination can be selected fromany page with the direct-to key.Select Direct-To Waypoint PageDestination WaypointIdentifier Field“Activate?”Function FieldTo select a direct-to destination:1. Press the direct-to key. The Select Direct-toWaypoint Page appears with the destinationfield highlighted. The direct-to waypoint mayalso be selected by facility or city name. SeeSection 3 for more information.2. Turn the small right knob to enter the firstletter of the destination waypoint identifier. Thedestination waypoint may be an airport, VOR,NDB, intersection or user waypoint, as long asit is in the database or stored in memory as auser waypoint.3. Turn the large right knob to the right to movethe cursor to the next character position.4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to spell out the rest ofthe waypoint identifier.5. Press ENT to confirm the identifier. The “Acti-vate?” function field is highlighted.Confirm the selected direct-to destination byhighlighting “Activate?” and pressing ENT.6. Press ENT to activate a direct-to course to theselected destination. Press and hold CLR toreturn to the default NAV page.
