4 - FLIGHT PLANS73Select ApproachSelect Approach? allows you to select a publishedinstrument approach for the destination airport, orreplace the current approach with a new selection.(In many cases, you’ll find it more convenientto select approaches using the PROC key — asdescribed in Section 5 - Procedures.)Published instrument approaches can beselected and used from the Active FlightPlan Options, or by pressing the PROC key.The “Select Approach?” option appears inboth places.To select an approach for a direct-to or flight plandestination airport:1. From the Active Flight Plan Page, pressMENU to display the Active Flight Plan PageOptions.2. Highlight the “Select Approach?” option andpress ENT.3. A window appears listing the availableapproaches for your destination airport. Turnthe small right knob to highlight the desiredapproach and press ENT.4. A second window appears listing availabletransitions for the approach. Turn the smallright knob to highlight the desired transi-tion waypoint and press ENT. (The “Vectors”option assumes you will receive vectors to thefinal course segment of the approach and willprovide navigation guidance to intercept thisfinal course.)5. Turn the large right knob to highlight “Load?”or “Activate?” and press ENT. “Load?” addsthe approach to the flight plan without imme-diately using the approach for navigation guid-ance. This allows you to continue navigatingthe original flight plan until cleared for theapproach, but keeps the approach availablefor quick activation when needed. “Activate?”adds the approach to the flight plan and beginsnavigating the approach course.6. For precision approaches, and non-precisionapproaches not approved for GPS, a reminderwindow appears indicating that GPS guidanceon such approaches is strictly for monitoringonly. To confirm this reminder, highlight “Yes?”and press ENT.Select ArrivalSelect Arrival? allows you to select a publishedstandard terminal arrival route (STAR) for the destina-tion airport, or replace the current arrival with a newselection. (See Section 5 - Procedures for informationon selecting arrivals using the PROC key.) Arrivals arenot available for all airports, in which case the arrivalwindows will show “NONE.”To select an arrival for a direct-to or flight plandestination airport:1.
