Chapter 5. Error Code to FRU IndexThe Error Code to FRU Index lists error symptoms and possible causes. The mostlikely cause is listed first. Use this index to help you decide which FRUs to replacewhen you are servicing the system. If you replace FRUs or perform an action and the problem is still not corrected, go to“MAP 1540: Minimum Configuration” on page 63, unless otherwise indicated in thetables. If you replace FRUs or perform an action and the problem is corrected, go to ″MAP0410: Repair Checkout″ in theRS/6000 EserverpSeries Diagnostic Information forMultiple Bus Systems.Performing Slow BootTo fully analyze all of the available information, perform the following steps beforecontinuing or doing a hardware repair or replacement, especially if the error is related tothe CPU or memory:1. Record the 8-character error code (and location code if present) displayed in theoperator panel or that was reported by the customer.2. Do a slow-mode boot in service mode. This can be specified using the SystemPower Control Menu on the service processor main menu. (A fast-mode boot skipsmuch of the built-in diagnostic testing.) A slow-mode boot may yield a new8-character error code on the operator panel and new errors in the serviceprocessor error log. If a new error code is reported, use it in subsequent steps tocontinue problem analysis. If a new error code is not reported, continue with the olderror code.Considerations for Using the Error Code to FRU IndexIf the codes in the following tables indicate a device that is present more than once inthe system unit, a location code is needed to specify which device generated the error.Go to “Step 1020-4” on page 48 to display the System Management Services error logand obtain a location code. Location code descriptions can be found under “LocationCodes” on page 14.After you have obtained the location code, see Chapter 10, “Parts Information”, onpage 303 for the part number.Notes:1. If more than eight digits are displayed in the operator panel, use only the first eightdigits to find the error in the tables. The digits that display beyond the first eightdigits are location codes that can assist you in diagnosing the problem. See“Location Codes” on page 14.2. Licensed programs frequently rely on system information stored on the VPD on theoperator panel control assembly. If the MAPs indicate that the operator panel control115
