Initial setup 43Real IP addressThe Real IP address (RIP) is the Nortel SNAS device host IP address fornetwork connectivity. The RIP is the IP address used for communicationbetween Nortel SNAS devices in a cluster. The RIP must be unique on thenetwork and must be within the same subnet as the MIP.ATTENTIONNortel recommends that you always use the MIP for remote configuration, eventhough it is possible to configure the Nortel SNAS device remotely by connectingto its RIP. Connecting to the MIP allows you to access all the Nortel SNASdevices in a cluster. The MIP is always up, even if one of the Nortel SNASdevices is down and therefore not reachable at its RIP.ATTENTIONIf an IP address — MIP, VIP, RIP, or gateway — is changed, the Nortel SNASmust be rebooted for the change to take effect.Initial setup The initial setup is a guided process that launches automatically the firsttime you power up the Nortel SNAS and log on. You must use a consoleconnection in order to perform the initial setup.• For a standalone Nortel SNAS or the first Nortel SNAS in a cluster, see“Setting up a single Nortel SNAS device or the first in a cluster” (page43).• To add a Nortel SNAS to a cluster, see “Adding a Nortel SNAS deviceto a cluster” (page 50).Setting up a single Nortel SNAS device or the first in a clusterStep Action1 Log on using the following username and password:login: adminPassword: adminThe Setup Menu appears.Nortel Secure Network Access SwitchUsing the Command Line InterfaceNN47230-100 03.01 Standard28 July 2008Copyright © 2007, 2008 Nortel Networks.
