Troubleshooting and routine maintenance149CCleaning the scanner Ca Turn off the machine’s power switch.Unplug the telephone line cord first,disconnect all cables and then unplugthe power cord from the AC poweroutlet.b Lift the document cover (1).Clean the white plastic surface (2) andscanner glass (3) underneath it with asoft lint-free cloth moistened with water.c In the ADF unit, clean the white bar (1)and the scanner glass strip (2)underneath it with a soft lint-free clothmoistened with water.d Plug the machine’s power cord back intothe AC power outlet first, and reconnectall cables and telephone line cord. Turnon the machine’s power switch.NoteIn addition to cleaning the scanner glassand glass strip with a soft lint-free clothmoistened with water, run your finger tipover the glass to see if you can feelanything on it. If you feel dirt or debris,clean the glass again concentrating onthat area. You may need to repeat thecleaning process three or four times. Totest, make a copy after each cleaning.Cleaning the laser scannerwindow CWARNINGDO NOT use cleaning materials thatcontain ammonia, alcohol, any type ofspray, or any type of flammable substanceto clean the inside or outside of themachine.
