Telephone services and external devices637For Fax/Tel mode only 7When the machine is in Fax/Tel mode, it willuse the F/T Ring Time (pseudo/double-ringing) to alert you to pick up a voice call.Lift the external telephone’s handset, andthen press Hook to answer.If you are at an extension telephone, you willneed to lift the handset during the F/T RingTime and then press #51 between thepseudo/double rings. If no one is on the line,or if someone wants to send you a fax, sendthe call back to the machine by pressing l51.Connecting an external orextension telephone 7You can connect a separate telephonedirectly to your machine as shown in thediagram below.Connect the telephone line cord to the jacklabeled EXT.Before you connect the external telephone,remove the protective cap (3) from the EXT.jack on the machine.1 Extension telephone2 External telephone3 Protective CapWhen you are using the external telephone,the LCD shows Telephone.Using a cordless externalhandset 7If your cordless telephone is connected to theEXT. jack of the machine (see page 63) andyou typically carry the cordless handsetelsewhere, it is easier to answer calls duringthe Ring Count.If you let the machine answer first, you willhave to go to the machine so you can pressHook to transfer the call to the cordlesshandset.Using Remote Codes 7Fax Receive Code 7If you answer a fax call on an extensiontelephone, you can tell your machine toreceive it by pressing the Fax Receive Codel51. Wait for the chirping sounds thenreplace the handset. (See EXT. Tel. RXon page 53.)If you answer a fax call at the externaltelephone, you can make the machinereceive the fax by pressing Start andchoosing Receive.Telephone Answer Code 7If you receive a voice call and the machine isin F/T mode, it will start to sound the F/T(double-ring) after the initial ring count. If youpick up the call on an extension telephoneyou can turn the F/T ring off by pressing #51(make sure you press this between the rings).If the machine answers a voice call andpseudo/double-rings for you to take over, youcan take the call at the external telephoneconnected to the EXT. jack of the machine bypressing Hook.12
