2 – Basic operational concepts : OptionsTASCAM DM-3200 Owner’s Manual 35BUSS Link/BUSS PAN are Linked Whenchecked, this option links the buss panning when alink is made between two busses.SOLOThe solo modes on the DM-3200 can be set up in anumber of different ways using this screen:MODE SELECT Either Mix Solo or Exclusive Solo canbe selected here. The Mix Solo mode allows a numberof channels (that is, all whose SOLO keys are lit insolo mode) to have their outputs added together tothe solo mix. The Exclusive Solo mode only allows onechannel (the one whose SOLO key was pressed last)to be soloed at one time.SOLO LINK This option allows the fader and mutegroups to be used with the solo function. This isexplained more fully in the solo part of the sectiondescribing monitoring. Briefly, if one of the groupoptions (MUTE GROUP or FADER GROUP) is enabled, selecting a group master module solos or unsolos thewhole of the group. If a group slave module isselected, the solo status of only that slave module isaffected.SOLO TYPE There are three options that may beselected here: PFL (pre-fader listen), AFL (after- orpost-fader listen) and INPLACE SOLO. Briefly; the PFLoption provides a way of listening to the signalbefore it is sent through the panpot and fader. Thestereo outputs are unaffected (soloing is only donethrough the CR and STUDIO monitor outputs). AnAFL selection will output the post-fader signal fromthe selected channels through the monitoring system.By contrast, soloing a channel in the Inplace Solo modemonitors the soloed signal(s) via the stereo and bussoutputs while all the other signals are cut from thestereo and buss outputs.INPLACE SOLO DEFEAT This option is a defeatoption to prevent channels selected in this way frombeing muted when other channels are soloed. It canbe used with a pair of effect returns, for instance, sothat these effect returns will always be added in theinplace mix, together with those other channelsselected for inplace soloing. Inplace soloing will out-put the soloed channel(s) from the stereo outputs, andcut all other channels. Use the cursor keys (or chan-nel SEL key) to highlight a channel, and the ENTERkey to change the status of the INPLACE SOLO DEFEATsetting.Alternatively, use the SEL keys of the modules fordirect selection and de-selection of the channels (useENTER to make the setting).Figure 2.33: SOLO options
