2 – Basic operational concepts : Utilities36 TASCAM DM-3200 Owner’s ManualUtilitiesThere are three UTILITY screens, accessed with theUTILITY key.The first of these (PARAM COPY) provides a method ofcopying values between channel parameters. The second (EXT. SW) determines the function of theexternal footswitch. The last (SYSTEM) allows CF card management anddate setting. These have already been described in“Formatting a new card” on page 24 and “Setting thedate and time” on page 27 and are not describedagain here. There is also a system update facility. See theTMCompanion software and its documentation forfull details of how to update the DM-3200.UTILITY copyingThis screen allows the aux send levels and pan set-tings for a group of channels to be set up to mirrorthe settings made on the channel faders, and the otherway around. This may be useful when setting up astudio monitor mix, for example, and the levels andpans of the aux sends used for the monitor mixshould initially be set to the same as the channels.1 Press the UTILITY key.2 Check either of the two checkboxes (PAN/BALand/or LEVEL) to select the settings to be copied.3 In either of the two boxes, select either the AUX-> CH or the other radio button (CH -> AUX forlevel, but variable for pan/balance).Naturally, it is not possible to select both in thesame box, though it is possible to select CH ->AUX in one box and AUX -> CH in the other.4 Select the source and the destination parame-ters as explained here.• For pan/balance copying, the aux sends andbusses are available as linked pairs or an ALLselection is also available. Individual sendsand busses are not available.• The STEREO buss is available as a destination.• The aux sends are selectable individually or aslinked pairs as sources or destinations for levelcopying.• Channels are divided into blocks of eight: 1-8,9-16, 17-24, 25-32 33-40 and 41-48 and ALL. Indi-vidual channels cannot be selected. Thisapplies to both pan/balance and level copying.5 Move the cursor to the on-screen COPY buttonand press ENTER. A confirmation popup mes-sage appears.6 Press ENTER again to confirm the copy, or acursor key to cancel. If neither of the checkboxes is checked when youpress the COPY button, an error message is displayed.Figure 2.34: UTILITY copy screen
