Should a software upgrade fail, the Webcache willautomatically revert to using the software version that was installedbefore the upgrade was started. The upgrade process is resilient to powerfailure, network failure or system failure. Prior to offering an automaticsoftware upgrade, the Webcache will download the new softwareversion onto temporary storage on the Webcache, ensuring that thecomplete software image file is available before commencing theupgrade.SoftwareDowngradesYou can downgrade the Webcache software using the same method asManual Upgrade. This is useful in the unlikely event that you areexperiencing problems following a software upgrade of the Webcache. Asoftware downgrade should only be performed as an emergency recoveryprocedure.During a software downgrade all settings apart from IP and DNSinformation will be lost and you will have to restore the settings from apreviously saved configuration file. Configuration files can only be usedwith the version of software that created them.To perform a software upgrade or downgrade see “Performing a ManualSoftware Upgrade” on page 245.3Com Network Supervisor cannot be used to perform softwaredowngrades. It can only upgrade the software on the Webcache.Detecting aSoftware UpgradeYou can configure the Webcache to automatically detect and downloadnew software versions, and notify you of their availability. If you enableautomatic detection, the Webcache checks for a new software versionevery 24 hours after it was last rebooted, at the same time each day.You should leave the Upgrade Detection Settings screen at its factorydefault settings, unless you are instructed to change them by 3Comsupport personnel.dua1611-5aaa04.book Page 241 Friday, November 29, 2002 8:56 PM
