82 CHAPTER 3: USING THE CLI INTERFACEAccessing theCommand LineInterfaceYou can access the Command Line Interface using: A terminal or terminal emulator connected to the console port of theWebcache directly, or through a modem. A terminal or terminal emulator connected to the Webcache over anIP network using Telnet. You can do this in two ways: Run a telnet session explicitly to the IP address or Domain NameSystem (DNS) name of the Webcache. Select System > Control > Telnet in the Web interface. This opens atelnet session to the Command Line Interface. You must use a VT52 or VT100/ANSI compatible terminal emulator.Accessing theCommand LineInterface Through theConsole PortTo manage the Webcache using the Command Line Interface through theconsole port:1 Connect the terminal or terminal emulator to the console port. If you are connecting directly to the console port, you need a standardnull-modem cable. If you are connecting to the console port using a modem, you need astandard modem cable. The console port of the Webcache has a male9-pin D-type connector. You can find pin-out diagrams for both cablesin the “Cable Specifications and Pin-outs” chapter on page 295.To connect the cable:a Attach the female connector on the cable to the male connector onthe console port of the Webcache.b Tighten the retaining screws on the cable to prevent it from beingloosened.c Connect the other end of the cable to your terminal, terminalemulator, or modem. Make sure that the terminal, terminal emulator,or modem have the same settings as the console port: 8 data bits no parity 1 stop bitdua1611-5aaa04.book Page 82 Friday, November 29, 2002 8:56 PM
