3-17Configuring the Adaptec SCSI Card 39320D with SCSISelectCaution: When a low-level format command is sent to thehard disk drive, the drive will start its format. The SCSIcard will not be in use and may appear to be hung. Youmust not interfere or try to stop the low-level format asthis can destroy the disk drive and render it unusable.When the drive has completed its low-level format, it willsend a command to the SCSI card and allow the user toexit the utility.To use SCSISelect to format or verify a disk:1 Start SCSISelect. See Starting SCSISelect on page 3-3.SCSISelect detects all Adaptec SCSI cards and displays themodel number, channel letter, slot number, and PCI address foreach card and channel.2 Select the SCSI card and channel that has the devices you wantto format or verify. The Options menu appears.3 Select SCSI Disk Utilities. SCSISelect scans the SCSI bus andlists the SCSI IDs and associated devices on the SCSI bus.4 From the list of SCSI devices, select the device you want toformat or verify.5 If the device has multiple logical units, a menu of LUNsappears. Select the LUN of the unit you want to format orverify. A small menu appears.6 Select Verify Disk Media or Format Disk.■ If you select Verify Disk Media, SCSISelect notifies you ofbad blocks and prompts you to reassign them. Select Yes toreassign the bad blocks or No to leave them as is. You canpress Esc at any time to abort verification.■ If you select Format Disk, a prompt appears, asking you toconfirm that you want to format the disk. Select Yes to startformatting the disk, or No to cancel formatting.!
