Configuration: Call BackupLocal Management User’s Guide2-39Configure BackupBackup is normally used to configure a backup connection if a primary connection fails. It can alsobe used to reduce CPU time for an unused interface. Use the following Network Tools command toconfigure backup:setbackup [PRIMARYIFACENUM] [BACKUPIFACENUM] [TIMETOCONNECT][TIMETODISCONNECT] [CONNECTRETRIESNUM] [TIMEBETWEENCONNECTRETRIES][BACKUPOVERRIDE]PRIMARYIFACENUM — The number of the primary interface that is going to be backed up.BACKUPIFACENUM — The number of the interface assigned as the backup interface to theprimary interface.TIMETOCONNECT — How long the system will wait (in seconds) before attempting to switchover to the backup interface. Default is zero. Allowed values are in increments of five seconds.TIMETODISCONNECT — How long the system will wait (in seconds) before attempting toswitch over to the primary interface once the primary interface has been restored. Default is 90seconds. Allowed values are in increments of five seconds.CONNECTRETRIESNUM — Specifies the number of tries to bring up the backup interfacebefore giving up. The default is three. Allowed values are in increments of one.TIMEBETWEENCONNECTRETRIES — Specifies the time interval between tries to bring up thebackup interface. The default is 30 seconds. Allowed values are in increments of five seconds.Values below 30 seconds are allowed but not advisable.BACKUPOVERRIDE — Specifies if the backup interface will disconnect whenever the primaryinterface is restored (reconnected). Choosing ENABLED for this command will not disconnect thebackup interface even though the primary interface is restored. Used specifically when the primaryinterface has an intermittent problem, as it is desirable for the backup interface to stay connecteduntil the primary interface problem is corrected. Once the primary connection is fully operational,BACKUPOVERRIDE should be set to DISABLED, the default value.NOTEThe commands in the rest of the procedure are Network Tools commands. Refer tothe host platform manual for detailed information on accessing Network Tools.
