6. Remove the following components from the faulty system-board assembly (seethe applicable installation instructions in this chapter and reverse the steps),and place them on a flat, static-protective surface. Note the locations wherethese components were installed on the faulty system-board assembly. You willneed this information when you install these components on the replacementsystem-board assembly. Make sure that these components are accessible forreinstallation.v IDE hard disk drives, drive trays, and riser cards (see “Installing IDE harddisk drives” on page 75)v DIMMs (see “Installing memory modules” on page 77)v I/O expansion cards and expansion card trays (see “Installing an I/Oexpansion card” on page 79)v Jumper J14, between jumpers J16 and J20 (for location, see the illustrationin “Recovering the system firmware code” on page 54)7. While the new system-board assembly is still in its static-protective package, touch it to an unpainted metal part of the system unit for at least 2 seconds.8. Remove the new system-board assembly from its package and place it on aflat, static-protective surface.9. Install the components that you removed from the faulty system-boardassembly in step 6 into the corresponding locations on the replacementsystem-board assembly.v IDE hard disk drives, drive trays, and riser cards (see “Installing IDE harddisk drives” on page 75)v DIMMs (see “Installing memory modules” on page 77)v I/O expansion cards and expansion card trays (see “Installing an I/Oexpansion card” on page 79)v Jumper J14, between jumpers J16 and J20 (for location, see the illustrationin “Recovering the system firmware code” on page 54)If you plan to increase the amount of memory in the blade server, install thenew DIMMs on the new system-board assembly now. For additionalinformation, see “Installing memory modules” on page 77.10. Note the machine type, model number, and serial number on the identificationlabel that is behind the control-panel door on the front of the blade server. Youwill need this information to complete this step. The replacement system-board assembly comes with a repair identification(RID) tag label. To ensure future entitlement for service, you must write theserial number of the blade server (with the original system-board assembly)onto the RID tag label in this step. The part number for the RID tag is13N0477.Use the RID tag label to transfer entitlement (machine type, model number, and serial number) from the original system-board assembly to the newsystem-board assembly. Do not use a pencil or felt-tip pen to complete the RIDtag label.Important:v The serial number of the blade server (with the original system-boardassembly) must match the serial number that you reported when you calledIBM for service.v Because the new system-board assembly is not associated with ablade-server serial number, you must transfer the serial number from theoriginal system-board assembly to the new system-board assembly.
