IntroductionThis topic provides a brief introduction to the IBM System x3850 X5 and x3950 X5Types 7145, 7146, 7143, and 7191.This information supports your IBM System x3850 X5 and x3950 X5 Types 7145and 7146 server and the optional IBM MAX5 for System x (MAX5) memoryexpansion module. It describes the diagnostic tools that come with the server, errorcodes and suggested actions, and instructions for replacing failing components inthe server and the MAX5 memory expansion module (see “Memory expansionmodule features and specifications” on page 29 for more information on theMAX5).Important: The IBM MAX5 for System x memory expansion module is a ListedAccessory for use with the IBM System x3850 X5 and x3950 X5 only.If you are adding an optional memory expansion module or scaling to anotherserver, see the rack installation instructions that come with the cable option kit.The most recent version of this document is available at http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/.Replaceable components are of four types:v Consumable part: Purchase and replacement of consumable parts (components,such as batteries and printer cartridges, that have depletable life) is yourresponsibility. If IBM acquires or installs a consumable part at your request, youwill be charged for the service.v Tier 1 customer replaceable unit (CRU): Replacement of Tier 1 CRUs is yourresponsibility.
