Microprocessor problemsThis topic explores a list of possible solutions for problems with the primarymicroprocessor on the server.About this taskv Follow the suggested actions in the order in which they are listed in the Action column until the problem issolved.v See Chapter 4, “Parts listing, Types 7145, 7146, 7143, and 7191,” on page 81 to determine which components arecustomer replaceable units (CRU) and which components are field replaceable units (FRU).v If an action step is preceded by “(Trained service technician only),” that step must be performed only by atrained service technician.Symptom ActionThe server does not functionafter replacing the primarymicroprocessor or the primarymicroprocessor error LED is lit.1. Correct any errors that are indicated by the light path diagnostics LEDs (see“Light path diagnostics” on page 57).2. Make sure that the server supports all the microprocessors and that themicroprocessors match in speed and cache size.3. Reseat the following components:a. Microprocessor 1 (see “Removing a microprocessor and heat sink” on page161)b. (Trained service technician only) Microprocessor board (see “Removing themicroprocessor-board assembly” on page 171 and “Replacing themicroprocessor-board assembly” on page 173)4. (Trained service technician only) If there is no indication of whichmicroprocessor has failed, isolate the error by testing with one microprocessorat a time.5. Replace the following components one at a time, in the order shown, restartingthe server each time:a. (Trained service technician only) Microprocessor 1b. (Trained service technician only) Microprocessor board6. (Trained service technician only) If multiple error codes or light pathdiagnostics LEDs indicate a microprocessor error, reverse the locations of twomicroprocessors to determine whether the error is associated with amicroprocessor or with a microprocessor socket.v (Trained service technician only) If the error is associated with amicroprocessor, replace the microprocessor.v (Trained service technician only) If the error is associated with amicroprocessor socket, replace the microprocessor board.Chapter 3.
