Use the switch’s 12-digit MAC addressip: is the IP address to be assigned to the switchsm: is the subnet mask of the subnet in which the switch is installedConfiguring Auto/DHCP/Bootp/ManualBy default, the switch is configured for ‘auto’. As describer earlier in Chapter 2, in theauto mode, the switch will first look for a DHCP server. If a DHCP server is not found, itwill then look for a BootP server. If that server is not found, the switch will first inspect tosee if the IP address 192.168.1.2 with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 is free. If the IP addressis free, MNS-6K will assign the switch that IP address. If the address is not free, MNS-6Kwill poll the network for DHCP server then BootP server then check if the IP address192.68.1.2 is freed up. This mode of assigning the IP address can be changed by using the‘set bootmode’ command.Syntax set bootmode type=[bootimg=] [bootcfg=[] – assign the boot modefor the switchWhere - wheredhcp – look only for DHCP servers on the network for the IP address.
