Components 257Setting the Port Numbers for a Manually Added LinkWhen a link is manually added to the map, it does not specify whichports or interfaces are being used on the devices it connects. 3ComNetwork Director lets you enter which ports or interfaces are used for thelink.To specify port information for a manually added link:1 Click on the icon for the link in the 3Com Network Director map to selectit.2 Select the Device > Properties menu option to launch the Propertiesdialog box.3 Click on the Ports tab. This displays the tab shown in Figure 116.4 Click on the Set button and select the unit, if applicable, and port orinterface on which the link is connected for the From port in the Add Portdialog box. Click OK. The port or interface being used for the From deviceis now listed.5 Click on the Set button and select the unit, if applicable, and port orinterface on which the link is connected for the To port in the Add Portdialog box. Click OK. The port or interface being used for the To device isnow listed.You can only select a port or interface that is not already connected. If aport or interface is already connected it is not displayed in the list ofavailable ports.Warning: If the device at one end of the link is not supported or consistsof a single port, for example an end-station, there are no ports availableso a message is displayed instead of the Add Port dialog box.6 Click on OK in the Properties dialog box to validate your changes.The port information is now set and the link may now be monitored andconfigured using 3Com Network Director.
